The ACH4 current clamp is a small size accessory head for quickly reading up to 400 AC amps. The new claw feature at the top of the clamp allows for quickly picking out the wire you need to measure and isolating it in the clamp. Once the current carrying conductor is isolated, the amperage is converted to mVAC for reading directly on the meter. The ACH4 works with the Fieldpiece “Stick” meter, EHDL1 Electronic Handle, DL3 Data Logger, the HG2 HVAC Guide® System Analyzer or any other digital multimeter (with mVAC range) connected by Fieldpiece ADLS2 detachable silicone leads or AHDL1 handle adapter.
How Does it Work?
The ACH4 is a very accurate current clamp that slides easily on the top of our modular stick DMMs and instruments, electronic handles, and connects to other DMMs using detachable test leads (model ADLS2). It converts 1AAC to 1mVAC on your meter. In other words, when you’re measuring 8.5 AAC your display will read 8.5 on the mVAC range on your meter. Isolate the wire you want to measure amperage on quickly using the wire grabbing jaw. While the clamp is very accurate, there is a prime location for the most accurate reading possible. Try to place the center of the conductor going through the clamp as shown.
Setup and Use
Connect the ACH4 to Volts and COM jacks. (Polarity is not important.)
Set the multimeter to mVAC range.
Use the claw shape to pick out the conductor you need to measure. Snap the jaws of the ACH4 around one of the current-carrying conductors. Make sure the jaws are tightly clamped.
For best accuracy, the wire should be centered according to the arrow indents on the back of the clamp.
Directly read the current value (in amperes) indicated on the display.
If meter displays overload, change range to next highest (2000mVAC or 2VAC. For 2VAC range, multiply reading by 1000.)
Features and Benefits
The ACH4 AC Current Clamp Accessory offers several features and benefits to field technicians:
Works with any Fieldpiece expandable DMM, instrument, handle or any DMM with mVDC ranges and industry standard jacks.
Remote the amp clamp for hard to reach areas using our deluxe silicone leads with detachable probe tips (model ADLS2).
Angled jaw opens to 1.8 inches and makes singling out a wire fast and easy.
Competitive Advantages
The modular design of the ACH4 gives it a distinct advantage over other ammeters in the field. Remoting the amp clamp with our detachable test leads allows you to measure amps with the blower door closed. You get more accurate amp draw readings with the door closed, because the system is sealed and running under normal conditions.
